1-Day Leaders Summit seminars

Classes cover the nuts and bolts of working with student athletes in the context of a NICA mountain bike club. A variety of classes are offered to educate both new and experienced coaches. Fulfills requirements for License Level 3. Click here for complete details on licensing.

Current License Level 3 coaches may attend April 22 seminars for the cost of lunch - use returning coach ticket.

Team Management classes: As teams have grown you have become leaders who oversee parent volunteers, a coaching staff, team development, complicated budgets and finances, and of course students. These classes are here to help and go into more detail and depth into leadership and management than ever before. 

featured Presenters

Eric Yelsa, Ph.D. will help coaches understand the teen cyclist psyche and how to motivate teens and build their confidence. Eric is a clinical psychologist working at the University of Utah. He is a member the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and assists with improving mental hardiness with competitive athletes. 

Steve Robinson, National Abilities Center.  Steve first came to the National Ability Center as a sports and recreation intern in the winter of 2006 and then as a full-time ski/snowboard instructor in 2008. He returned in 2014 as the sports and recreation program manager because he believes strongly in the organization’s mission, and wanted to be a part of the continued development of innovative new programs, such as spearheading a progressive rock climbing series and adaptive mountain biking programs

MTB 101 - NICA On-the-Bike Skills
April 23

Learn the skills to teach the skills.  This clinic offers coaches the opportunity to learn the progressive steps needed to teach anyone (even yourself) both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders. Most of this workshop is on the bike, so please bring your bike and appropriate riding and safety gear for the weather. Taught by licensed NICA Skills Trainer, Judd Zimmerman. Fulfills requirements for License Levels 2 & 3.
