Our athletes, coaches, volunteers and sponsors made 2017 the best season yet!
Lori started her cycling passion in eighth grade. She tried her first mountain bike race in 2002, and it changed her life—she was hooked! She began training and racing and earned her USAC coaching certifications and worked with JR Smith Coaching from 2004 to 2011. Lori discovered NICA in 2011 and knew it would make a difference for Utah's teens and that she had to start a league in Utah.
Lori's passion and enthusiasm for the Utah League mission and core principles are contagious. With the help of a great board, race crew, and coaches, the league has seen unprecedented success and growth, and has led the way in developing and implementing several new programs (Elevate, Student Leadership, Junior Devo, League Loaner Bikes, etc) and in hosting the largest events in NICA.
Jason had the opportunity to participate in the League as a student for the 2012 and 2013 season. Jason's former High School coach, Judd Zimmerman, was the true reason why Jason got into mountain biking. Since his High School graduation in 2014, he has stayed connected within the league and has wanted kids to experience the same excitement that he did. Jason has been pursuing his cycling passion by attending USAC's Pro XCT level races, and has now transitioned to the Ultra-Endurance races (focusing on the 24-hour solo discipline), and Enduro. In 2016, Jason competed in the Scott Enduro Cup Series (Pro-Men's Division) and finished the season with an overall 8th place.
Tasha started racing bikes during the inaugural year of the UHSCL in 2012 and was immediately hooked. She fell in love with the mental and physical aspects of riding bikes along with the camaraderie of having a supportive team. After graduating high school, she stayed connected to the Utah league in order to help other kids fall in love with the lifelong sport of cycling. Since getting a start racing cross country with NICA, she has dabbled in long distance, enduro and downhill racing. When riding, she prioritizes having fun and exploring new trails.
