Enable every Utah teen to strengthen body, mind, and character through the life-long sport of cycling

About US

The Utah High School Cycling League (a 501(c)3 nonprofit) was organized in 2011 and is an affiliate league of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.   We facilitate the development of interscholastic cycling teams/clubs for grades 7 – 12 and provide the education, training, licensing and insurance for coaches and volunteers.  We also provide a high-quality mountain bike racing experience, while emphasizing the value of each participant (no bench) and placing camaraderie, positive sporting behavior and the cultivation of health over competition.

mission

Establish a fun, enduring and relevant interscholastic mountain biking program to improve Utah's Communities and the lives of Utah's teens.

Lori Harward

Founder & Executive Director
Lori started her cycling passion in eighth grade. She tried her first mountain bike race in 2002, and it changed her life—she was hooked!  She began training and racing and earned her USAC coaching certifications and worked with JR Smith Coaching from 2004 to 2011. Lori discovered NICA in 2011 and knew it would make a difference for Utah's teens and that she had to start a league in Utah.

Lori's passion and enthusiasm for the Utah League mission and core principles are contagious. With the help of a great board, race crew, and coaches, the league has seen unprecedented success and growth, and has led the way in developing and implementing several new programs (Elevate, Student Leadership, Junior Devo, League Loaner Bikes, etc) and in hosting the largest events in NICA.

JASON CHRISTIANSEN

Senior Programs Manager
Jason had the opportunity to participate in the League as a student for the 2012 and 2013 season. Jason's former High School coach, Judd Zimmerman, was the true reason why Jason got into mountain biking. Since his High School graduation in 2014, he has stayed connected within the league and has wanted kids to experience the same excitement that he did. Jason has been pursuing his cycling passion by attending USAC's Pro XCT level races, and has now transitioned to the Ultra-Endurance races (focusing on the 24-hour solo discipline), and Enduro. In 2016, Jason competed in the Scott Enduro Cup Series (Pro-Men's Division) and finished the season with an overall 8th place.

DALE HENTZELL

Operations Manager
Dale is a Texas native that turned his love of the outdoors into a career.  He graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Recreation Administration.  He used that education to help others find a love for the outdoors and create unforgettable experiences.  Dale’s early work experience included commercial guiding, directing youth adventure skills programs, and serving in Americorps running adaptive sports programs for SPLORE.  Dale has continued to express his passion for helping people push boundaries and lead a healthy lifestyle.

In 2009, the sport of mountain biking captivated Dale. Once he had that first experience behind the handle bars of a mountain bike, he never looked back.  While living in Colorado for 6 years prior to moving to Utah in 2015, Dale found ways to incorporate the bicycle in all aspects of his day to day life.  Not only has the world of cycling been an outlet for fun, Dale has committed to work and volunteerism within the realm.  He worked alongside the founding Board Members of the Bailey HUNDO (eventually to become President of the BOD), which led to an opportunity to work for the Colorado High School Cycling league, which then led to his work as Associate Director of Tour de Cure Colorado, Southern Colorado and Montana, to Account Executive at Primal Wear, Inc.  Now in UT, you can find Dale out on the trails often. Dale has also recently established, and Co- Chairs, an event in Utah sponsored by People for Bikes, called DRAFT, whose purpose is to engage and connect people in the cycling community
